Photo An Hour | April '18

April 28th was #PhotoAnHour

I had a slower start to the morning than usual. Feeling a bit tired I stayed in bed reading until 9 o'clock. Only got up because I needed another cuppa. And then another one at 10 o'clock. I was supposed to be going to watch my nephew play football but it was rained off, so I had to decide what to do instead. The outcome of that little internal debate was to clean the oven, with a house full of guests expected the next day it seemed like a good idea. It's a job I really dislike, but it did look shiny and new by the time I'd finished... sadly it only lasted until I started cooking a roast the next day.

By lunchtime I was in full procrastination mode. I needed to set about more housework but, meh. I set about finding three photos on my computer instead. After seeing Janet post her's on Instagram, I wanted to have a go too (anything to put off washing floors). The 2011 photo was taken at work, when I still had a real job, the 2015 photo was taken just after having my hair cut (I was never able to recreate this look myself), and the 2018 photo is the most recent one of Andy and me. My glasses have grown in size, I have a few more lines and grey hairs but I don't think I've changed all that much.

At 1 o'clock I was still trying to hide from the housework, I pottered in the greenhouse for a bit. It was raining but the plants in the greenhouse still needed watering. I noticed that one of my dahlia plants had sprouted, finally! Now I just need the rest to follow suit. I think this one is a cactus variety, but I failed to label any of them, so it'll be a surprise.

The cherry blossom continues to bloom, despite the rain and the high winds it still looks rather cheery.

With the floors finally cleaned I went upstairs to do a little work, but I slipped and fell and managed to put The Jane Austen Book Club DVD into the player. Having vacated my seat for a few minutes to let in the Tesco delivery man I returned to find my seat taken. And not one single damn did she give. Look at the face!

I prepared dessert for the next day in advance. Mint Areo Cheesecake. Delicious! And the best bit was that they didn't eat it all, and Andy said it was a little too minty for his liking, so I got to eat ALL THE LEFT-OVERS!

After dinner I kept telling myself that I should really do some ironing, including a huge table cloth for the next day. But there was an obstruction on the board. And he stayed there a while (I've trained him well).

Thanks to Jane and Louisa for hosting, I decided that this year I would take part every month even if my days weren't that exciting, and full of things like oven cleaning...

How was your weekend?

  1. Slower start... stayed in bed until 9 o'clock. Yep, you make me feel ashamed that I only woke up at just before 10 on Saturday.

I want to do the photos thing now! I'm not on Instagram so I might do it on my blog. It will be interesting to see if I've changed.

Mint Aero cheesecake sounds delicious! Sadly there are no Aeros here.

    1. No Aeros! You need to move back to the UK.

I wasn't into taking selfies back in 2011 so it was really hard to find one from that year, these days I almost have too many to choose from!

  2. I really love these photo an hour posts, as I like seeing how people spend their days. I'm probably just being nosey ;-) I had a good chuckle at you trying to dodge the housework! Your cat was probably just trying to help you there! And isn't it typical of cats to take your place once you've turned your back! Phoebe does that all the time! Oh, and seeing those photos, I don't think you've aged at all. Quite the opposite, I think you're looking fabulous in that last one, with your husband! xxx

    1. I like to read these posts too, so if you're nosy, then I am too :)

Sometimes I really enjoy housework and getting everything ship shape but not that day. I think Socks was actually doing me a favour. Tink spends most days trying to steal my chair, I only ave to get up for a second, it would be fine but she's not willing to share...
Thank you, that's a kind thing to say about my photos

    1. Yeah, it was nice, I had no hard and fast plan, I just made it up as I went along. I like days like that.

  4. The cheesecake looks delicious, lucky you having the leftovers all to yourself. Animals are brilliant for helping you swerve the housework, Archie likes to be cuddled at any time of the day so I can't help it if he jumps on my knee just as jobs need doing now can I?

    1. Absolutely not, nothing can be done when a pet decides it's time for a cuddle.

  5. I'm with Ann, I love these posts although i think your cats are better trained than ours, we're never allowed to stay in bed later than 7am!!
You look even lovelier in that later photo with Andy - definitely a case of getting better with age. xxx

    1. I do tend to stumble out of bed at around 6am to feed them, then I go back to bed.
Thank you, that's a lovely thing to say :)

  6. I love these posts! Your cat cracks me up! I am also good at the work avoidance. My kitchen floor is a state right now!! Mmm, cheese cake sins good even though I'm fairly ambivalent about cheese cake usually!
You definitely look even prettier as you get older!

    1. Thank you, you guys are doing my self confidence a world of good!
I find it even harder to get on with the housework at this time of the year, I always want to be outside instead!

    1. I'm told *ahem* that a paint scraper will remove the brown from your oven door, heat the oven a little before hand - not too hot - it comes off a treat.
      The cheesecake was so nice!
